Subject of the art competition<\/strong>The subject of the art competition is the design and execution of the art on the building for the Cooperative Control Center of the Berlin Police and the Berlin Fire Department (KLST) at the locations Gallwitzallee 87, 12249 Berlin-Lankwitz (Steglitz-Zehlendorf district) and Nikolaus-Gro\u00df-Weg 2, 13627 Berlin-Charlottenburg Nord (Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district).Task of the art competition<\/strong>The task of the competition is to develop art on the building that connects both locations in an artistic contribution, creates an identity-forming reference to the cooperative handling of emergency calls to 110 and 112 and impresses with its artistic quality and expressiveness. The artistic contribution can deal with the themes of security and cooperation, the work of the police and fire department and\/or the architecture and spatial environment. <\/p>\n\n

We are looking for an artistic contribution developed specifically for this competition task on the basis of individual artistic creation.Choice of artistic medium<\/strong>With the exception of the use of water as well as audio, video, light and other installations that require a power supply, the choice of artistic medium is at the discretion of the participants, provided that the use and safety of the respective processing area is not restricted and the architects’ copyrights are respected.<\/p>\n\n

Participatory approaches are not possible. <\/strong>Reason<\/strong>The construction of a new cooperative control center (Gallwitzallee 87, 12249 Berlin-Lankwitz (Steglitz-Zehlendorf district) – sub-project 1) and the construction of an extension and renovation of the existing building (Nikolaus-Gro\u00df-Weg 2, 13627 Berlin-Charlottenburg Nord (Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district) – sub-project 2+3) will create a unified control center for the Berlin police and fire departments. Both authorities will use the buildings, which will be operated with shared technology and equipment, on a cooperative basis. This cross-city and cross-agency cooperation is reflected in the spatial design and technical equipment. As part of the country’s critical infrastructure, the two locations also have high security requirements in common due to their use, which must be taken into account by the architecture, for example to protect the buildings from external attacks. The sites are only partially accessible to groups of visitors and only by appointment. In addition to offices, operating and recreation rooms, the buildings also contain alternative and spare rooms as well as large areas for the necessary technology. <\/p>\n\n
