Project grants can be applied for by individuals (natural persons) or legal entities (e.g. associations, foundations under public law, companies, etc.). Artists’ collectives or groups should check whether it makes sense to set up a GbR or whether an individual should take on the application and the associated rights and obligations. <\/p>\n\n

The foundation supports artistic projects in the visual, applied and performing arts, artistic photography, literature, music, film, design, architecture and media art as well as interdisciplinary projects. Originality, quality and feasibility of the project are required.<\/p>\n\n

Within the framework of project funding, support is granted for individual artistic projects as an overall project as well as for project modules such as concept development or supporting marketing measures.<\/p>\n\n

Projects of high artistic merit are eligible for funding:<\/p>\n\n

– with supra-regional or international visibility and corresponding collaborations– with original, unusual approaches or forms of expression, innovative arrangements or with an experimental character– with topics that are important to the public or reference to issues or conflict situations that stimulate debate and have a correspondingly lasting effect– aimed at children and young people to encourage them to engage with art and culture or to refine their aesthetic sensibilities– with cross-disciplinary, cross-genre or interdisciplinary project objectives<\/p>\n\n

Applications are possible until June 8, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. and should relate to a funding period starting in January 2027.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n

Funding is only available for projects that have not yet begun at the time of application. If the applicant wishes to start the project before the grant is approved (early start of the project), this generally requires justification and the prior approval of the Arts Foundation of the State of Saxony-Anhalt. The prerequisite for funding is an application that is ready for a decision.<\/p>\n\n

Funding is usually provided in the form of partial financing of the project. The overall financing must be secured. As a rule, the share of funding provided by the Art Foundation does not exceed 50% of the total expenditure. For projects with total costs of up to 5,000 euros, the Art Foundation can deviate from this principle and provide full funding.<\/p>\n\n

Film projects longer than 30 minutes are also supported by the Arts Foundation with a non-repayable grant, so that it is not possible to include provisions in the financing plan.<\/p>\n\n

Natural persons cannot claim any non-cash (monetary) contributions when financing a project. The financing plan of legal entities may only contain non-cash contributions amounting to a maximum of 10% of the total expenditure. <\/p>\n\n

Publication subsidies:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The foundation supports publications as part of project funding with fixed-amount funding. For example, printing and production cost subsidies in the fine and applied arts are generally funded for artist catalogs by living artists with an amount of up to 8,000 euros. Literary works (not first works) are supported with up to 4,000 euros. In the field of music, the recording costs for musical publications (music files for streaming services, CDs) are funded with a fixed amount of 8,000 euros. Furthermore, the design costs of websites are also subsidized with an amount of 2,000 euros as part of publication funding. As a rule, natural and legal persons with their main residence\/registered office in Saxony-Anhalt are eligible to apply. <\/p>\n\n

<\/a>Promotion of catalogs of works:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The Art Foundation supports the creation of catalogs of works by contemporary artists. The program is intended to support artists in systematically processing their work and to promote the recording and presentation of the artistic heritage of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. <\/p>\n\n

The catalog raisonn\u00e9 is a comprehensive and annotated list of all works of art by an artist, compiled according to scientific standards. The program only promotes the compilation of complete catalogs raisonn\u00e9s and not of individual groups of works. Artists are to be encouraged to systematically record artistic works of all genres, to prepare them for publication and digitally and to make them available to a broad public. <\/p>\n\n

The program focuses in particular on the East German art heritage, the legacy of the art of the GDR and the art history of the post-war period in Saxony-Anhalt up to the present day. The criterion for approval is the art-historical significance and cultural identity of the work for the region, as well as its national and international visibility, which is also to be increased by a possible catalog raisonn\u00e9. <\/p>\n\n

The catalog raisonn\u00e9 should be processed by the artists and may be supported by students. The application must include a personnel proposal for cooperation with a professionally qualified consultant who will advise the artists on the compilation of the catalog raisonn\u00e9. <\/p>\n\n

The catalog raisonn\u00e9 is to be recorded digitally in a recording program specified by the Art Foundation. The data will be stored on an Art Foundation server and excerpts will be published on the Art Foundation’s website in the future. This requires the transfer of the simple right of use (publication right) to the images and data of the recorded works for an unlimited period of time and free of charge. The catalog raisonn\u00e9 must also be submitted in the form of a print publication. The work process may take a maximum of three years, by which time a result must be available in digital form and in the form of a print publication. <\/p>\n\n

Funding is provided within the framework of fixed-amount financing up to a maximum of 30,000 euros. For example, fees for the consultant and student assistants, printing costs for the print publication, costs for photographs, travel expenses for research and for documentation in accordance with the Federal Travel Expenses Act (BRKG), office supplies, etc. are eligible. The costs must be directly related to the production process and must be documented and justified. No non-cash (monetary) benefits can be claimed for the financing of the project. <\/p>\n\n

All artists generally living in Saxony-Anhalt can apply for a grant. The program is aimed at artists who were born in Saxony-Anhalt, are active here, work or have worked in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Artists born around 1955 or later and who have been professionally active as artists for at least 25 years are eligible to apply. Proof of artistic activity, exhibitions, catalogs, publications and\/or a degree from an art academy must be provided. The artists must have a recognizable connection to the federal state and this must be reflected personally and\/or professionally in the documents submitted. Multiple applications are possible following a rejection of funding. <\/p>\n\n

The catalog of works must be processed in such a way that a presentable final result is available. This result consists of two parts: <\/p>\n\n
