Not two, not four, but six limbs move in rhythm, scatter in chaos, march in unity. With antennae raised and wings poised, the insect world teems with sound, form, and ingenuity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For re:natura #06 – Hexapoda<\/strong>, we invite you to explore the vast and varied realm of insects through sound. Hexapoda – the scientific term for six-legged arthropods – offers a rich terrain for sonic exploration: from the faint subterranean rustle of Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa<\/em> (the European mole cricket) and the soil-turning toil of Anoplotrupes stercorosus<\/em> (the dor beetle), to the sky-darkening migrations of Danaus plexippus<\/em> (the monarch butterfly) and the swarming cacophonies of Schistocerca gregaria<\/em> (the desert locust). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are calling for works that respond to insects as a biological masterpieces, ecological force, metaphor, and mystery. Dig deep into the buzzing labyrinth: topics might include colony behavior, parasitism, mimicry, metamorphosis, swarm intelligence, extinction, pollination, or the evolutionary genius of adaptation. The more specific, the better. Engage with iridescent carapaces, pheromonal communication, formic architecture, cicada choruses, mosquito drones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We welcome contributions from sound artists, poets, experimental musicians, researchers, and sound designers<\/strong> who are interested in insects as more than nuisance or ornament. Whether literal or abstract, representational or metaphorical, your audio work should resonate with the vibrant, fragile, and interdependent worlds of the six-legged. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
