The BBKarium features ceramic objects by Julia Himmelmann that strike a balance between seriousness and humor. Through laconic, humorous works with minimalist forms, the artist explores what eludes us. Between closeness and distance, between drawing near and drifting apart, a diffuse longing emerges. The forms seem familiar. They appear to draw near, then turn away. As the viewer observes them, a quiet, sometimes amusing moment of encounter and recognition arises. <\/p>\n\n

The objects leave room for personal associations and speak of wandering, nestling, touching, swelling, and persevering. The material itself, which bears the immediate traces of the shaping process, becomes a key vehicle for the narrative. Subtly and playfully, Julia Himmelmann reflects the associations of femininity and sensuality woven into the material. <\/p>\n\n

Julia Himmelmann first completed an apprenticeship as a ceramist and then studied in the Sculpture\/Ceramics Department at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle. She lives and works in Halle (Saale). <\/p>\n\n
