The “Legendary – Treasures of the Soil” project encourages the participating children to get to know their legendary local history in an interesting way and also to discover the treasures that lie directly in the ground.1000 years of town history – a significant part of which is mining – contains some interesting events and traditions. Located on the southern edge of the Harz Mountains, Sangerhausen is surrounded by shaft dumps, mixed forests and fields. There is much to discover here in terms of history, natural history, geology and geography. The large stock of legends and stories gives reason to delve into the depths of the architectural features right down to the mineral resources. The region’s specific rye stone, slate, Marienglas and copper play a special role here.<\/p>\n\n

In the course blocks with excursions, the legendary town and region of Sangerhausen is discovered in a narrative way from top to bottom. The main topics are the legends surrounding and about Sangerhausen buildings, about Gustav Adolf Spengler – an autodidact with consequences – and about the landscape of the southern Harz and its mineral resources. Artistically, materials are used that emphasize the main themes, such as glass, copper, pewter, slate, plaster and clay. In the fall, the results will be presented in a final presentation together with the course participants.<\/p>\n\n
