Malpaís is an association committed to promoting and disseminating contemporary art. We provide a space
for creation and visibility, with a focus on emerging artists and an emphasis on research, experimentation,
and innovation. Our mission is to support the production of new works while fostering an environment that
nurtures artistic development and creative growth.
Through this open call, we aim to support artists in the development of a project that will culminate in a solo
exhibition in our space in Barcelona.
We offer:
- €1000 production budget, taxes included.
- €1000 artist fee, taxes included.
- Additional budget to cover transport, catering, installation, graphic design, and photographic documentation
costs. - For artists not resident in Barcelona, we consider the possibility of covering travel and accommodation.
- For artists not resident in Barcelona, a studio space will be available for a maximum of two weeks to support
the production.
Requirements to participate: - Call open to artists from all over the world, without age or nationality limits.
- To apply, you must submit an updated portfolio and a curriculum vitae. CV limit is one page.
- It is not necessary to submit a specific proposal for the space in this call, but it can be added optionally.

Our position:
We recognize the demands that open call systems often place on artists—particularly the unpaid time and
labor invested in developing detailed project proposals that may never come to fruition. For this reason, our
call does not require a specific project proposal to apply. Instead, artists are invited to submit a portfolio of
existing works or past projects as a representation of their practice. Once selected, the artist will be given
complete creative freedom to conceive and develop a new project within the Malpaís space, supported by the
resources and guidance offered by our organization.
Calendar: - Deadline for submission of applications: June 15, 2025.
- Resolution of the call: June 30. The result will be published on our website and social media.
- Final exhibition: between December 2025 and January 2026.

Important notes: - Selected artists are expected to work in close collaboration with the Malpaís team and adhere to the esta-
blished timeline for the exhibition’s development and presentation. - Residency in Barcelona is not required to apply. However, artists who are not based in the city must ensure
their availability for both the installation and dismantling of the exhibition.
Jury:
The jury for this call is composed of artists who are members of the board of directors of the Malpaís Cultural
Association. The members of the jury are Joan Pallé, Nil Safont, and Cayetano Truyols.
Technical equipment available: - Acer full HD projector, 3600 lumens.
- Mini Philips picopix projector resolution: 854 x 480 pixels.
- 2 Behringer 500W active monitors with tripod.
- Behringer 4-channel mixing console.
- Microphone.
- 4 RGB LED spotlights
