Dr. Dormagen-Guffanti Scholarship 2026

Together with the Dr. Dormagen-Guffanti Foundation, we invite artists from the fields of video, video and sound installation to apply for the Dr. Dormagen-Guffanti Scholarship, which is endowed with 10,000 euros.

The equal participation of people with and without disabilities in society is the guiding principle of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities adopted in 2008. About 150 years ago, the founder Dr. Hubert Dormagen donated his assets for the purpose of caring for the disabled in Cologne. In order to create opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in the arts, the Foundation’s Board of Trustees awards the Dr. Dormagen-Guffanti Scholarship to visual artists every year from the Foundation’s income.

For the year 2026, the Dr. Dormagen-Guffanti Foundation and we invite artists from the fields of video, video and sound installation to apply for the Dr. Dormagen-Guffanti Scholarship endowed with 10,000 euros.

The scholarship runs for six months from April to September 2026. The application should outline the artistic idea for working with the residents in terms of content and structure. In addition to the residents of the home for the severely disabled, members of the other initiatives based on the site, such as Treberhilfe, Aidshilfe, Gehörlosen e. V. and others, can also be addressed. The aim is to work artistically, free from pedagogical or therapeutic intervention.

For the duration of the scholarship, a studio space will be made available free of charge on the premises of the Dr. Dormagen-Guffanti Municipal Center for the Disabled. The studio space and the grounds are the spatial center of artistic creation for the scholarship holders during this time. Attendance is compulsory.

At the end of the scholarship, a final exhibition of the works created during this time will be held in the studio. The foundation will bear the costs of the exhibition after consultation with the scholarship holder.

The scholarship is endowed with 10,000 euros, 1,500 euros per month for six months, as well as a one-off materials allowance of 1,000 euros. An allowance of up to 500 euros per month can be paid for accommodation or travel costs for six months.
