Mandates of the BBK Saxony-Anhalt

Dessau-Roßlau Design Advisory Board

The BBK Saxony-Anhalt has a permanent seat on the design advisory board of the city of Dessau-Roßlau. It is currently represented by the following BBK members:

• Marion Münzberg (voting member)
• Fabian Jochen Kanzler (Substitute)

The Advisory Board is an independent and honorary body of experts that makes professionally substantiated recommendations to those responsible for construction. They can draw on the expertise of the advisory board or rely on its competent advice for publicly effective projects. The Advisory Board supports the work of the committees and the City Council in a constructive manner. It meets around 10 times a year.

BBK Federal Association

In the Federal Association of Visual Artists (BBK Bundesverband), the German umbrella organization for artists, the regional associations are represented in various committees.

Federal Delegates’ Conference:
The Federal Delegates’ Conference meets every four years and is responsible for electing the Federal Executive Board, among other things. Three delegates hold a mandate for the BBK Saxony-Anhalt. These are elected by the General Meeting.

Federal Committee:
The Federal Committee meets between the Federal Delegates’ Assemblies. The BBK Saxony-Anhalt usually sends a member of the current Board of Directors to these meetings. The meetings take place at least once a year. It deals with professional policy projects and topics, the budget and developments and experiences in the federal states.

Art in federal buildings

The BBK Bundesverband is invited by various federal authorities at irregular intervals to send competent members to expert juries that advise on building-related art or make decisions in competitions. It draws on members of the national associations for this purpose.

The BBK Saxony-Anhalt sends two members to the pool of the BBK Federal Association, who can then be requested for specific art-in-architecture projects. The artists from Saxony-Anhalt will in turn be selected from a list for which they have registered as part of the state association’s annual transparency survey.

Saxony-Anhalt State Art Prize

Every two years, the Art Prize of the State of Saxony-Anhalt is awarded to artists who can demonstrate a recognized life’s work or whose previous work suggests a further development towards high artistic achievements. The prize, endowed with 7,500 euros, is awarded by the Minister of Culture.

The BBK Saxony-Anhalt is one of the organizations represented on the jury that advises the Ministry on the award. The BBK Saxony-Anhalt sends alternating representatives who have declared their willingness to do so as part of the transparency survey and who have a good knowledge of the state’s art scene.

Education Advisory Board Halle (Saale)

The BBK Saxony-Anhalt and other cultural associations are represented on the Education Advisory Board of the City of Halle (Saale), which was founded in 2022, by an annually changing representative.

The Education Advisory Board is the central advisory body for the city council and top management on the subject of education. As a driving force, it pursues the goal of the joint strategic development of Halle’s educational landscape.

Temporary juries and seats

In addition to the aforementioned mandates, the BBK Saxony-Anhalt delegates members to various committees at local, state and national level on request. He can draw on a great deal of expertise in the membership. The willingness and competence of the members are queried by the head office in an annual survey (transparency survey) so that committees can be filled quickly.
