Exhibition ‘Helga Borisch – PLAISIR – Pictorial textiles and graphics’
With the title Plaisir I want to say that it is a pleasure to have an artistic profession. – But, for example, the circumstances of the time, says the humorous poet François Villon – do not give him plaisir. – The doll collection “Mon Plaisir” in the A. Castle Museum still gives pleasure! – Reflecting and giving shape are open to the artist and his possibilities. – What did democracy look like when Aristophanes wrote his comedy “The Wasps” in 422 BC? Helga Borisch has lived and worked as a freelance artist in Magdeburg since 1968 … She became known for her large textile works of art … At the same time, however, she also creates watercolors, collages, prints and installations, which also attract the interest of a broad public. Above all, the poetic serenity in her works with a subtle meaning is what makes them so appealing … Her work is fed by ancient myths, especially those of the Greeks, including the comedies, from old illuminated manuscripts, from more recent literature and from music. Her crossing of boundaries between the individual trades of the visual arts and crafts is synonymous with her free œuvre, which has grown over four decades. Jörg-Heiko Bruns (text excerpt shortened)
