On Saturday, 13 September 2025, we – a coalition of civil society organizations and private individuals – cordially invite everyone to a colourful family-friendly rally on Friedensplatz in Magdeburg. Join us! In Saxony-Anhalt, we are observing a development that worries us: a political force has established itself to the right of the conservative spectrum that is increasingly bringing extremist ideologies into our parliaments, into public discourse and into our everyday lives. This development poses an existential threat to the values that the art and culture scene ideally stands for: openness, tolerance and diversity. In view of the increasing attacks on artistic freedom in the practice of art and culture as well as our democratic values, we would like to actively and peacefully stand up for an open society. The event creates a place where people can meet each other with respect, share their views and talk together about our democracy. Every voice counts – because only together can we shape our society.
We are therefore calling on cultural associations, artistsWe call on local artists, organizations and all those who are committed to an open society to join our event. Together, we want to make the criticism and wishes of the local cultural scene visible, highlight the importance of democratic values for art and culture and stand up together for a diverse society. At the rally, you can expect exciting information stands, short speeches from experts live music, DJ sets and creative activities for children.
There will be hands-on activities in which the whole family can actively participate. The aim is to provide information about democracy and tolerance in a playful way and to have fun together at

The event has several objectives:
➔ Political education: We want to inform and sensitize participants about the current challenges facing the democratic cultural sector through information stands and speeches.
➔ Strengthening democracy: We want to raise awareness of the importance of openness, tolerance and diversity and encourage participants to actively promote democratic values.
➔ Strengthening the community: A creative offer for children as well as live music and DJ sets should make the event an experience for the whole neighbourhood.
