The “Floodwater Residency Program” is an artistic work by the American artist Mark Dion. It is located directly on the Seege in Gartow, opposite the Zehntspeicher. The small house on stilts was erected in 2007 in connection with the art trail project.
Since then, the artistic field laboratory Seegeniederung Gartow/Elbtalaue (Artistic Field Laboratory in the Marches of the River Seege) has been inviting primarily visual artists to spend time in productive seclusion at this research station.
Mark Dion sees the Floodwater Residency as a social sculpture. The artistic works created by the residents during the residency are therefore part of this concept. The program stipulates that the artists deal with a theme that can be associated with their residency in the broadest sense.
The pile construction also makes the station suitable for stays during high water periods when the lowlands are flooded.
Artist in Residence application
A stay of at least one week to a maximum of four weeks should be planned for your own project. A selection of the results produced on site (e.g. in the form of writing, images or sound) should be made available to the Kunstverein’s archive at the end of the residency.
Possible period of stay: June, July and August.
Your application for the residency should include the following:
- a CV with an artistic curriculum vitae
- Portfolio of the artistic work
- Information about the project to be realized (maximum one DIN A4 page) as well as information about the period of stay
- and a statement of interest in the residency
Important!
The Floodwater Residency has no heating, running electricity, Wi-Fi and no drinking water connection or sanitary facilities, which applicants should be aware of.
The public sanitary facilities at nearby Lake Gartow and the electricity connection in the Zehntspeicher can be used during opening hours.
