Please note: The call for applications is aimed at young applicants born in or before 1991.
The 2026 Prize for Young Art marks the end of the long and special series of BauSchau Art Prizes. It was an intensive and enriching time – characterized by highly committed artists and outstanding jury and team members.
We would like to thank all those who have submitted, carefully examined and evaluated art projects in recent years and ultimately selected the winners.
Since 2010, we have been able to offer prize money of 1,000 euros for each award – made possible by private sponsorship.
There are many visitors to the exhibitions – artists and organizers are happy to open them.
The much larger number of viewers look at the works from the outside – a quick glance from their everyday working life, the walk with the baby carriage, the desire for “fresh air” – all an opportunity to look at the works through the large display window.
Many reasons for the 2026 theme of our last art prize:
from the inside out
We expect the portfolios to offer us a variety of artistic forms of expression. The independent jury, see below, will select a design in May 2026 without the participation of the team. All projects must work with the space in Düsseldorf – Brehmstrase 41 and be clearly visible through the shop window.
IDEA
The 2026 Art Prize can be submitted from all areas of the visual arts. A project proposal (exposé) must be submitted, which is to be realized in a solo exhibition at the Schaustelle building site in Düsseldorf. The exposé should show the development of the artist’s own artistic work.
CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
The competition is aimed at young applicants born up to 1991.
The winner undertakes to realize an exhibition in August 2026 (opening 07.08.2026) at Brehmstrase 41 [Baustelle Schaustelle] Düsseldorf. As part of the exhibition, a maximum 30-minute artist talk will take place, which will discuss and contextualize the exhibition and the works shown. The awarded person is responsible for organizing a suitable discussion partner. We would like to point out that there is no budget for this beyond the art prize winnings.
BAUSTELLE SCHAUSTELLE e. V.
The project spaces of Baustelle Schaustelle are member-supported spaces for young contemporary art.
Works by international artists have been on display since fall 2007. Initially conceived as a temporary experimental platform, the non-commercial project galleries have established themselves as permanent art spaces. From 2010 to 2025, the art prize has already met with a great response from artists and the media.
PRICE
An independent jury of experts (see JURY) will decide on the winner at the end of May. The prize money amounts to 1,000 euros. Half of the prize money will be paid out before the exhibition and half at/after the exhibition. The winning concept will be shown in August 2026 (opening 07.08.2026) in a solo exhibition at b41, Düsseldorf – [Baustelle Schaustelle], Brehmstraße 41.
