Self-conception of the BBK Saxony-Anhalt
The BBK Sachsen-Anhalt e.V. directly supports professional artists in all their professional matters in our federal state. It sees itself as a community of solidarity and offers opportunities to develop personal initiative.
In addition to our role in supporting members, we see ourselves as a mediator in order to optimize the economic conditions for entrepreneurial activities in the art sector, to work towards broader social use and the resulting cultural added value for all. Improving cultural education is therefore also one of our core tasks. We see our role as a communicator, interdisciplinary interface and point of contact for all social actors, discourses, economic associations, cultural sectors, institutions and authorities, and thus assume the role of an umbrella organization in the field of visual arts with around 320 members .
Essential prerequisites for our work are the preservation of artistic freedom and respectful interaction with one another.
Core tasks
- Advocating appropriate working conditions and fees for freelance artistic work, cultural education, consultancy and jury work
- Raising awareness of the specifics of the artistic profession
- Advising the state of Saxony-Anhalt on artistic matters
- Procurement of artists for external requests
- Participation in panels and press discussions on the topics of exhibition remuneration, building culture, minimum fees, artists’ estates, etc.
- Advice on organizing competitions and tenders
Tasks in the interests of the country
- Art in construction: Advice for public institutions on the tendering and implementation of competitions; suggestions for jury members and competition management
- Artists’ estates: information on national initiatives; advice for artists, heirs and estate administrators; operation of a database of works; promotion of the establishment of an estate archive
- Art Prize of the State of Saxony-Anhalt: participation in the jury
- Cultural education: bringing artists to schools
- Contact for institutions, companies and individuals looking for artists for services and projects
- Advising state institutions on tenders for art competitions, scholarships, etc.
Networking
- Exchange with ministries and members of parliament in Saxony-Anhalt
- Exchange with specialist departments of the municipalities in Saxony-Anhalt
- BBK Federal Association: regular exchange on important cultural policy initiatives
- Exchange with other professional associations in Saxony-Anhalt
- Member of the Kulturkonferenz Sachsen-Anhalt e.V.
- Cooperation with schools, daycare centers, after-school care centers, museums, the HAL ART art fair, etc.
- Participation in panel discussions, publication activities, etc., e.g. on the topics of art in architecture, organization of freelance work, social and economic situation of visual artists, art market, funding opportunities, general cultural policy issues, artists’ estates

- Weekly e-mail newsletter with announcements and cultural policy and association information
- Supporting members’ public relations work by means of flyers, homepage, newsletter and social media
- Printed newsletter with editorial contributions from the Executive Board and the working groups as well as announcements
- Support with conflicts with the artists’ social security fund or other social and professional problems
- Artists in schools in Saxony-Anhalt: annual BBK program, funded by the Saxony-Anhalt Ministry of Education, since 1996
