Intermedia × International × Intergenerational
Festival & exhibition at Zentralwerk Dresden | November/December 2025
40 years after “Intermedia I” (Coswig, 1985), Zentralwerk Dresden, in cooperation with Zonic and other partners, invites students, master students and alumni of the HfBK Dresden, as well as external artists, to engage artistically with the themes and issues of the “Inter Hoch 3” festival.
Thematic focuses
- Intermediality: crossing genre boundaries – between image, sound, text, body, space
- Intergenerational dialog: How do we remember alternative art histories? How do we pass them on?
- Art & subculture in the field of tension between repression, individual meaning and collective experience
- Resistance & utopia: artistic strategies beyond the mainstream
- Archive work & fiction: reinterpretations of historical materials, narratives and contexts
- International perspectives in the Eastern Bloc: imagined and real connections between the GDR, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, etc.
We are looking for
artistic contributions that deal with these themes – through new works, re-stagings, installations, performances, audiovisual formats or research-based projects. Every form of artistic expression is welcome! Interdisciplinary, collective or experimental approaches are also welcome.
Time frame
- Festival: November 14 – December 05, 2025
- Exhibition: during this period, the KABINETT can be used from 14-28.11. and/or the KLEINE SAAL from 01-05.12.
- Set-up / production: from November 10 (by arrangement)

More about the project
“Inter Hoch 3” is an interdisciplinary festival that recalls the legendary festival “Intermedia I” (1985, Coswig) – as a moment of artistic self-empowerment in the GDR. Together with contemporary witnesses and today’s artists, we trace what remains, what has been forgotten – and what emerges from it. “Inter Hoch 3” invites us to visualize ruptures, transitions and resonances between generations, scenes and countries – as a collective search for traces between past and present.
