Art and Culture Prize of the City of Meissen 2026

The city of Meissen, which is over a thousand years old, is a city of art and culture rich in tradition and has always been a center of attraction and a place of activity for important artists and other culturally active people. In 2001, the city of Meissen awarded the Art and Culture Prize for the first time to cultivate and promote contemporary artistic and cultural achievements. It has been awarded every two years since 2004. The next award ceremony will take place in 2026.

This award is presented to artists and cultural workers who have their cultural and artistic focus in Meissen or whose work is of great importance to the city. In addition, the award winners should have made an outstanding contribution to the image of the city of Meissen with their personality and artistic achievements. The prize can be awarded to individuals or ensembles.

An eight-member jury consisting of one member each from the Meissen State Porcelain Manufactory and the Meissen Art Association as well as the Lord Mayor, two members of the Social and Cultural Committee and three expert jurors will decide on the proposals submitted to the City of Meissen by December 31, 2025.

According to § 15 of the statutes on honors and awards of the city of Meißen, the following are entitled to nominate

  • Meissen citizens,
  • Meissen associations, clubs and cultural institutions,
  • the respective committee responsible for culture and
  • the Lord Mayor.
