Fleetstreet Residence

Together with the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the Hamburgische Kulturstiftung and the Rudolf Augstein Foundation, the Fleetstreet Theater Hamburg has been running a residency program since 01.01.2011 for groups of artists who work as interdisciplinary as possible in the performing arts, visual arts, film and/or music.

The Fleetstreet Residency Program is intended to support young groups that develop productions with manageable financial resources that are suitable for smaller theater spaces. The funding should also offer the opportunity to deepen research, try out new strategies and develop work processes; the final presentations can take the form of showings, interim presentations, discussions, exhibitions, workshops etc. and do not necessarily have to take the form of a finished production.

The groups will be provided with the Fleetstreet Theater in Hamburg and a studio apartment (3 rooms, kitchen, bathroom) in the immediate vicinity of the theater for a period of one to three months. In addition, the artists will receive funding from the Hamburg Cultural Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Media and the Rudolf Augstein Foundation in the amount of €1,000 per month each for the costs of realizing and presenting their project (a total of €3,000 per month is available to the artists or the group). The funding from these foundations does not have to be applied for additionally.
The scholarship holders are asked to submit a written report on their stay at the Künstlerhaus Edenkoben at the end of their residency.

The aim of the Fleetstreet Residency Program is to give groups of artists the opportunity to work independently on a project in the Fleetstreet Theater and to make this project or the working process in the Fleetstreet Theater accessible to the public.

The focus of the residency is on promoting research projects and experiments that often cannot take place in traditional production contexts.

In contrast to other work grants, the groups are not only provided with a rehearsal room/studio, but also have exclusive use of the entire Fleetstreet Theater during their residency. This enables, among other things, spontaneous performance and presentation formats to take place, such as smaller weekly events. As a pure residency theater, the theater has no ongoing performance operations and therefore no employees who are on site every day, but has different contact persons for technology, press and coordination. This requires and enables a great deal of independence on the part of the residents as temporary operators of the Fleetstreet Theater.
