We are looking for artistic perspectives on prefabricated buildings and everything that takes place in and around them. For a long weekend of culture, information and music from September 26 to 28, 2025, an uninhabited prefabricated apartment block from the 1970s will be available in Altenburg. A group exhibition will bring together artistic works that approach prefabricated housing and/or life in prefabricated housing in different ways.
Each participant will have a complete apartment at their disposal for artistic works or projects, and it is of course also possible to apply as a group. When applying as a group, it is sufficient for the contact person to submit an application. However, the longer description of the project should contain all the necessary information about the people involved.
Several dates are offered on which work can and should be done on site to prepare for the exhibition. The apartments can be set up for (almost) anything, be it a “white cube situation” for classic wall works, an installation made of wood that fills the entire room, graffiti from floor to ceiling, or a stage for performance and self-awareness.
Not all of the apartments will be occupied by artists; there will also be an art education collaboration with the Lindenau-Museum Altenburg and a historical approach by residents of the neighborhood with photographs and eyewitness accounts is planned.
Applications are possible for all art disciplines and with all materials. Any transportation, tools and materials required should be described in detail in the application and specifically agreed upon when participating. There is also the possibility that small material costs will be covered; information on this will be provided in the reply email to the application.
There is no electricity or water in the building! Temporary toilet cubicles will be set up on site for the exhibition.
The organizers will support you as far as possible, but cannot help with the implementation of your design ideas.
