Due to the great demand and the increasing challenges in rural areas, the Federal Cultural Foundation is increasing the funding for the second round of applications by 2.5 million euros. This means that up to 27 local networks can be funded in this round instead of 13. The model program “LOKAL – Program for Culture and Engagement”, which is open to applications, supports the establishment of up to 40 long-term networks in cities and communities with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants across Germany. Between 200,000 and 240,000 euros are available per project for four years. The overall program will be implemented from 2024 to 2031 by the Federal Cultural Foundation, the Federal Agency for Civic Education/bpb and the European Cultural Foundation and includes academies and advice, a European exchange and accompanying program as well as a nationwide closing festival.
