In the footsteps of Lyonel Feininger | Angela Dolgner – Photographs
To the exhibition:
Since 2018, Angela Dolgner has been working on a photo series in homage to Lyonel Feininger, which now comprises almost 100 pictures. She followed in his footsteps, from the Weimar region to the Baltic Sea. His motifs – especially churches, towers, windmills and views of towns, as well as ships and the sea – became hers. However, the aim was not to recreate the master’s pictures, but to develop their own photographic visual language using typical Feininger elements. Deliberately sought overlaps create the characteristic crystalline refractions. With every step through a narrow street, with every approach to a building, the view changes, the perspective changes, new relationships between the components arise.
Using multiple exposures, Angela Dolgner enchants the locations in a virtuoso game and makes the architecture dance. Several realities are linked together in one image, building structures or details are placed in a completely new relationship to one another as architectural collages. The photographic superimpositions from different viewpoints and from changing perspectives, sometimes even from inside and outside, merge in Angela Dolgner’s pictures to create a new reality.
