KaB: Bingen University of Applied Sciences

The new lecture hall building (Audimax) on the grounds of Bingen University of Applied Sciences (TH Bingen) is to be given an artistic design.

The new building closes a gap in the university’s teaching facilities and completes the campus area. In addition to a sufficiently large lecture hall with modern equipment, the university will also have urgently needed student self-study workstations. These are located in the centrally located movement, meeting and distribution room, the so-called function room.

The planned location for the art is in this function room. A large interior wall made of exposed concrete is available here. Large window areas allow views into the building and onto the wall to be designed from all directions and views of the campus.

The mission statement of the TH Bingen contains the slogan “Practically the best”. The previous MINT term (Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, Technology) is redefined with the words “Together – Innovative – Sustainable – Technical”. These guiding concepts describe the university’s self-image.
The artistic design is intended to help identify the location and act as a place of exchange between students from the “Life Sciences and Engineering” and “Technology, Informatics and Business” departments. This is intended to give the new building’s meeting center an unmistakable face. An associative reference to the focus of the natural sciences and engineering university is desirable, but not a requirement. The awarding authority is looking for a design that expresses the diversity of student life and work and encourages communication. It should have an atmospheric effect on the building.

All forms of expression in contemporary art are possible, including painting, installation, writing, light art, fabrics, time-based media and more.
