International Ceramics Symposium Römhild

From October 05 to October 31, 2026.

“Metamorphosis – Ceramics in the Transformation of Cultures” – this is the theme of the XIII International Ceramics Symposium to be held in the town of Römhild in 2026.

Conditions of participation:

The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 8 artists. These will be selected from the applicants by an expert jury. For the duration of the symposium, participants will receive a work grant of €2,000 as well as free accommodation with breakfast. In addition, cooking facilities are available at the studio for further meals. The accommodation is located approx. 2 kilometers from the studio. There is a bus connection between the accommodation and the studio. The cost of a season ticket for the bus will be borne by the organizer if required. The organizer expects the artists to participate in the symposium for the entire duration.

In addition, the artists undertake to take part in the following events / dates: Opening event, visit to Keramik Kraft, open studio day, closing event. Experimental work to create extended forms of expression, particularly in the area of sculptures and sculptures, is expressly encouraged. The following will be made available Clay and porcelain bodies for a wide variety of production technologies and firing temperature ranges as well as the latest firing technology from ROHDE, such as electric and gas-fired chamber kilns and top loaders, wood-fired open-hearth kilns, hood kilns and bogie hearth kilns and RAKU kilns. Depending on demand and firing requirements, temporary firing technology can also be provided.

The main works created by the participants during the symposium (at least one to two works each) become the property of the organizer. In addition, further works may be created as part of the participants’ experimental work, depending on capacity, in consultation with the organizer and against reimbursement of the material costs, which become the property of the participants. At the end of the symposium, the artists traditionally receive a certificate of participation.

All artistic works are made public in a catalog. The artistic works that become the property of the association are also made public in exhibitions. Selected works of art are shown in a permanent exhibition at the KERAMIKMUSEUM Schloss Glücksburg.
