KUNSTFONDS_Scholarship 2026

The KUNSTFONDS_Stipendium aims to promote concentrated artistic work and new ideas as a sustainable basis for future freelance work. Visual artists and artist duos who work as freelance visual artists in their main profession, whose main place of residence is in Germany and who are neither enrolled nor employed during the grant period (mini-jobs are permitted) are eligible to apply.

The program is financed by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media with funds from the German Bundestag and is subject to the availability of funds.

The applicants for the KUNSTFONDS_Stipendium are also selected as the winners of the annual awards HAP Grieshaber Prize of the VG Bild-Kunst and the Valerie and Prof. Kurt M. Schulz-Schönhausen Award are selected.

Application

Applications for funding can only be submitted digitally via the online application portal of the Kunstfonds Foundation at application.kunstfonds.de can be submitted.

Applications must be submitted in German:

  • Details of the applicant or, in the case of artist duos, of the applicant (name, address, contact details),
  • Proof of residence in Germany (e.g. identity card with registration address or passport and current registration certificate),
  • artistic curriculum vitae (training, exhibitions, freelance artistic activities over the last 10 years),
  • Description of the objectives during the approval period,
  • Image material (JPG) and informative portfolio (PDF) on the artistic work of the last 10 years.
