Wax batik and indigo dyeing
Individual appointments for groups of 5 or more possible
Wax batik is a reserve process in which heated and therefore liquid wax is applied to the fabric. The wax penetrates the fabric and reserves specific areas that should be left out during dyeing.
Based on traditional Indonesian wax batik, the wax is applied to the fabric using a copper pot known as a “tjanting”. Self-made brushes and stamps can also be used to create individual shapes. Scribing into the wax layer enables the creation of fine line drawings.
Through successive reservation and dyeing phases, complex, multi-colored motifs are applied to the fabric.
Dyeing is carried out with natural indigo in vats of varying concentrations and in cold dyeings with direct dyes. The resulting fabrics can be dewaxed at the end or processed in waxed quality.
The aim of the course is to teach and learn various methods of wax reservation with the aim of creating your own collection of samplers.
