Scholarship Eduard Bargheer Foundation

On the occasion of his 75th birthday, the painter Eduard Bargheer (1901 – 1979) set up a foundation which has been awarding grants to young artists since 1978.

He himself had been sponsored at a young age and had received scholarships that enabled him to travel to Florence and Paris, among other places, which gave him new impetus for his work.

When he set up his foundation, he also remembered his own sponsors and friends with gratitude.

Funding conditions
The foundation supports young painters. Applicants should not be older than 30 years of age and must be resident in the Federal Republic of Germany.

How is an application possible?
The foundation invites young visual artists to apply. Applications are accepted from February 15 to March 15 of each year.

The following documents must be submitted:

  • Curriculum vitae, handwritten, if applicable with details of previous scholarships, including their amount, and any exhibitions;
  • Photo prints (no slides) in postcard size of 10 exemplary works;
  • Presentation of the artistic position and concept, if applicable with reference to planned artistic projects or concrete further educational plans;
  • Comment on the financial situation.

The application documents will not be returned.

How are scholarships awarded?
The Foundation’s Advisory Board reviews the applications after the annual submission deadline and initially makes a pre-selection. After making personal contact with the favored candidates, it then proposes the recipients of the grants to the Board of Directors.

Funding
The foundation awards annual grants of at least EUR 9,000 as well as grants for specific artistic projects, educational projects, travel, exhibitions and catalogs.

Application deadline: March 15, 2025
