Open Call: Exhibition Zwischenwelten of the BBK Leipzig

The 4th exhibition “Zwischenwelten” at the 4D project location of the BBK Leipzig e.V. focuses on the theme of intermediate worlds / science fiction – between idea and image, between narrative and perception, between inner imagination and outer form. The starting point is illustrations from the 1950s to 1980s by Werner Ruhner (1922-1999): science
fiction and the future are conceived here primarily as technical adventures: space travel, machines, distant worlds. These literary images of the future are thus translated into visible worlds. In the context of the competition, Zwischenwelten / science fiction is not understood as a genre, but as a form of thought:

  • What images of the future shape our present?
  • What has become of the visions of past generations?
  • What utopias, fears or alternatives are emerging today?
  • How are technology, politics, ecology and society changing our image of people and/or
    our future?

The theme opens up a space for works that operate between narration and abstraction, between image, text, space and idea. Visual artists from Leipzig are invited to apply with up to three works (max. size 1.5 x 1.3 m) from the fields of painting, drawing, illustration, graphics and photography.
