BBK Leipzig e.V. is initiating the cooperation project “fragil” as part of this year’s annual theme “Zwischenräume”. “fragil” is an interdisciplinary art project with visual artists, composers and music students that artistically explores social, ecological and political upheavals.
The starting point is the observation of an increasing fragility of fundamental values, systems and structures – a fragility that is not only felt socially, but also individually.
Artistic question:
What constitutes the transition from a stable state to a fragile one? Where is the tipping point, where are the fault lines? And can these processes be made visible? This is where the cooperation project “fragil” comes in and invites visual artists to work with composers from Musik Projekt Sachsen e.V., hochdruckpartner Galerie und Werkstatt and young people from the Digital Sound Art / Composition class at Musikschule Neue Musik Leipzig to trace the changes of our time, explore breaking points and transitions and present them visually and audibly. Tipping points, fault lines and dynamics that arise when testing a medium are just as interesting in this project as determining and highlighting unstable, fragile states, states of emergency and processes of change.
Fragility is to be artistically explored and made tangible.
The artistic investigations are realized in an interdisciplinary approach that includes visual art and musical genres as well as informative formats. In a creative dialog between visual art, composition and digital sound art, we want to highlight different facets and themes and create different, also emotional access possibilities. To this end, a kick-off event and a workshop with all participants will take place in Leipzig.
The call for entries is aimed at professional visual artists (letterpress printing, photography, painting, installation/video art, textile art) from Leipzig and the surrounding area who have completed a university degree or are members of the Bund Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler. The participating artists will be selected by a jury of experts. Artists’ fees (at least 700 €) as well as material and equipment costs (approx. 300 €) are planned and depend on the funding situation.
The project period is from mid-March to December 2026. A kick-off event will take place on 25.3. in presence in Leipzig, which will provide an opportunity to get to know each other, present initial ideas and conclude with a keynote speech. A 1-day workshop is planned for 16.6.2026 to present the interim results and to exchange ideas.
“fragil” is funded by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony and the City of Leipzig and is a cooperation between BBK Leipzig e.V., hochdruckpartner Galerie und Werkstatt, Neue Musik Leipzig and Musik Projekt Sachsen e.V. as well as the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig.
