The association ent – Verein zur Förderung von Kunst und Kultur im ländlichen Raum – moved into the premises in the center of Haag in July 2022 and currently hosts two exhibitions a year in the shop windows of the art and culture workshop ent. With SCHAUFÜNF, we are now looking forward to the sixth exhibition within this format.
SCHAUFÜNF is dedicated to the theme of territories.
Territories
A territory refers to an area of land or a region. Derived from the Latin
terra – earth, soil – the term has both a material and a symbolic dimension. Territories are places of belonging, demarcation, power and negotiation.
In the current geopolitical context, territory is inextricably linked to issues of imperialism, border demarcation and claims to power. These developments generate global uncertainties, fears and conflicts. At the same time, territorial issues are also reflected in everyday life – especially in rural areas: the use of public spaces, the need for retreat, privacy or one’s “own four walls” are in a constant state of tension with community and social cohesion. In many contexts, communal spaces are currently being re-evaluated as use, accessibility and ownership claims clash.
How are territories claimed, defended or shared – physically, socially and emotionally? What desires, hopes and fears accompany these processes? How do they shape our coexistence in general and in rural areas in particular? Where do borders run – and where should they be questioned, shifted or dissolved? Which walls persist and which need to be torn down?
The aim of the association ent is to promote regional art and cultural development and to create access to contemporary art away from conurbations. The focus is on exhibitions. Contemporary art is presented several times a year in ent’s large-scale “shop window gallery”. The 2026 call for entries is aimed at artists from all disciplines, both individual artists and groups, and invites artists to explore the theme of territories. The shop window in particular offers an exciting setting for this as an exhibition venue: As a transitional space between public and private, between inside and outside, visibility and demarcation, it is particularly suitable for artistically negotiating territorial issues and making them accessible to a wide audience.
We are looking for artistic positions that reflect on territory as a spatial, social, political or psychological concept and initiate a dialog about ownership, belonging, community and borders.
The works submitted will be selected by a jury made up of members of the association’s board and a guest curator. We provide an artist’s fee of € 400,- gross including transportation costs per position. Production costs (material) will be covered according to the needs and financial scope of the association. The final financial conditions will be communicated in a transparent and timely manner.
