Open Calls “Artist in Lab 2026”

The successful “Artist/Designer in Lab” program of the Fraunhofer Network “Science, Art and Design” is entering its seventh round! The call is aimed at artists who would like to enter into an interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration with researchers from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. A total of €40,000 is available for funding in the current round of calls. The projects will be funded up to a maximum of €10,000. An interdisciplinary jury will decide on the allocation of funds.

Application process – contents of the application, deadlines, general conditions

Applicants must submit a coherently formulated proposal with all attachments as an application, which is related to the content of the program and should make a relevant contribution to it. The jury will not review incomplete applications. The documents submitted will be used exclusively for the judging process.

The application should include the following documents in PDF format:

  • Curriculum vitae (including education, presentation of previous artistic, scientific and/or artistic-scientific achievements, prizes, publications, etc.)
  • Brief overview of the application (template will be provided, see download area)
  • Application form (will be provided as PDF, see download area)
  • PR text on the project (max. 2000 characters without spaces) and meaningful photo (including copyright information) for public relations work
  • Project plan (including budget plan), maximum 5 pages (excluding cover sheet)
  • Portfolio
  • Letter of Intent* – Expression of interest by the Fraunhofer Tandem Institute (template will be provided, see download area)

When submitting the budget plan, the notes on budget planning must be observed (see download area).

* The planned collaboration should be made clear through an expression of interest. This expression is not legally binding, but shows aspects such as the topic of the collaboration, motivation, organizational unit of the researcher, planned duration or other information on the expected effort and the planned collaboration.
