The so-called Otto-Steidle studios have been located under the pedestrian bridge in Ganghoferstraße since 2006.
In the first few years, the studios were rented out for a term of 3 years. In 2016, the term was then extended to 5 years; in addition, the Academy has been funding two 50% scholarships for artists since this time.
Project realization
The studios are financed, realized and operated by a specially founded project company of the FONDARA Group. FONDARA, which is based in Munich, develops and invests in special-purpose properties such as hotels and retail centers throughout Germany. The land under the bridge and the technical interfaces to the bridge are provided by the City of Munich, represented by the Building Department, via a long-term license agreement. The total investment costs for the studios amounted to around € 420,000.
Initiator
The idea of the studios under the Ganghoferstrasse bridge goes back to the Munich architect Rudolf Hierl. He developed it together with the elementary school (Pfeuferstr. 1) after winning a competition. It proved impossible to finance the project solely from the budget of the City of Munich.
Name
The name “Otto Steidle Ateliers” is intended to honor the late great Munich architect Otto Steidle. He was closely associated with the visual arts. The subsequent use of the old exhibition grounds on Theresienhöhe, where the studios are located, was developed according to his urban planning and architectural designs.
