In principle, there is no party-political neutrality requirement for independent organizations and NGOs. However, the terms “neutrality, neutrality requirement or neutrality obligation” are used throughout civil society. They are commonly misinterpreted, used inappropriately by administrations and instrumentalized politically and strategically by right-wing extremists. Maximilian Lorenz from the German Federal Youth Council provides an overview of the concept and problems surrounding the neutrality myth.
