Hans Molzberger in Salzwedel

The 2nd exhibition “FROM 2 WORLDS” shows works by the German-American artist Hans Molzberger that were created both in Germany and in the USA. It unites two geographical worlds and at the same time documents an impressive artistic development that is strongly driven by an elementary impulse: fire.

Molzberger’s work begins with traditional Japanese RAKU ceramics, fired in an open fire – a process full of unpredictability and an expression of inner strength. From there, the arc stretches to welded and plasma-cut steel sculptures that continue the element of fire in the transformation of the material. This is followed by works in cast iron before the artist turns to a new medium: laser engraving on paper. Here too, fire – in the form of light and heat – remains a central design element. The exhibition documents this artistic journey between worlds, materials and techniques – a journey that is both biographical and aesthetic.
