The Kunstverein Ost – KVOST for short – was founded in 2018 and is dedicated to promoting artists from Central and Eastern Europe or whose lives and working methods were shaped by the experience of the former Eastern Bloc. With the studio scholarship and the artist-in-residence program, KVOST invites selected artists to explore the complexity of Leipziger Straße / Dönhoffplatz and the surrounding area or other geographical and biographical aspects of the East and to present the resulting works in a solo exhibition. The scholarship is awarded in combination with the Claus Michaletz Prize. Residency: 6 weeks from August to September 2026.
Prerequisite for the application is a biographical connection to Central and Eastern Europe / former Eastern Bloc.
The scholarship includes the following benefits: Accommodation, working space in Berlin, travel to and from Berlin, exhibition budget / fee: 2,500 euros. The Claus Michaletz Prize is endowed with 10,000. Of the prize money, 8,000 euros are at the free disposal of the scholarship holders. 2,000 euros will be used to purchase a work by the selected artist for the Secco Pontanova Foundation.
