Lithographyplanographic printing with stone

Lithography is the oldest graphic flat printing process, which not only revolutionized advertising and photo printing, but also captivated artists and continues to do so today. Planographic printing on stone or zinc works with the repellent properties of grease and water. For artistic purposes, the desired motif is applied using greasy substances such as chalks or special ink, thus defining the position for the greasy printing ink to be absorbed. By moistening the stone and the previously unmarked areas, the ink is absorbed, making it possible to print the motif. The versatility, the spectrum of what can be depicted, but also the idiosyncrasy of this printing process make lithography so appealing.

The course offers the opportunity to try out this special printing technique as part of a two-day course and to print your own motif in a small edition on the rubbing press.
