The Thicket is not a subject. It is a stage. *In the Thicket* is an open call for conceptual and narrative photography that conceives of the impenetrable as a space for stories—as a backdrop, a setting, an inner landscape. We are seeking works that do not merely document, but rather uncover what can be found in the thicket—or what is merely conceivable. Works that tell stories without explaining them. Not a natural idyll. A setting. What is there to see in the thicket when someone looks closely?
You may submit up to 3 individual images or a series of up to 7 images. All photographic techniques and approaches are welcome—from documentary to staged, from analog to digital. AI-assisted editing is permitted but must be indicated at the time of submission. Images generated solely by AI without a photographic basis are not permitted.
The selected works will be shown at weissraum. Atelier für Fotografie—an exhibition space in Eltville am Rhein that features curated exhibitions, events, and workshops focused on conceptual photography. The works will be printed, professionally presented, and will be part of a group exhibition running from September 6 to November 22, 2026.
Application deadline: August 16, 2026
