On the trail of female visual artists
Collegial research / Call for applications for five research grants
The Deutscher Künstlerbund and Kunst-Mentoring – a project of the Kulturbüro Rheinland-Pfalz – are carrying out a project on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Künstlerbund and the 20th anniversary of Kunst-Mentoring, which sheds light on the development of artistic positions of women since 1950. The project is funded by the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry for Family Affairs, Women, Culture and Integration and realized in cooperation with the Stiftung Kunstfonds. As part of this project, five research grants are being offered.

– to shed light on female artists who have not yet received sufficient public attention, whose works are undervalued or have even been overlooked,
– deepen the understanding of artistic working methods – especially in the process of engaging with predecessors and their work – as well as the artistic reception of positions and strategies,
– the artistic examination of predecessors and their work.
In order to achieve this goal, the fellowships will be used to research the lives and works of female artists whose artistic significance has so far been impaired by gender-specific bias or processes of forgetting.
Funding is provided for work projects in which scholarship holders develop questions from their own work, which they pursue as part of the research scholarship.
The scholarship holders are encouraged to freely shape their artistic biographical research according to their own interests and impulses, whereby different perspectives such as family of origin, artistic self-image and financial situation can be taken into account.
Application deadline: May 26, 2024
