Art in architecture – New school building, Peenestraße 47 // Berlin

As part of Berlin’s school construction offensive, the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing is planning and realizing a series of wooden apartment schools (HOCOMP) in a very short space of time.
A 3-course elementary school and a 4+3-course integrated comprehensive school are being developed as compact type buildings in modular timber construction. In addition, a three-field type sports hall in serial timber construction is planned. The school and sports hall buildings are to be erected at various locations in the state of Berlin.

The theme of art in architecture is based on an examination of the spatial, architectural and social dimensions and situations of the school, the site and the surrounding neighborhood. Within this framework, the aim is to create a multi-sensory and tangible design. The art on the building can be integrated into the architectural structures as well as develop an independent design position.
