Exhibition “BIBLIOMANIA – Saxony-Anhalt’s artists’ books”
The special exhibition “Bibliomania – Saxony-Anhalt’s Artists’ Books” invites visitors on a fascinating journey of discovery through the world of artists’ books from June 12 to August 9. The exhibition will open on June 12 at 6 pm at the museums in Köthen Castle. On display is the impressive diversity of a medium that can be read as a carrier of information and as a freely designed work of art: from experimental objects to conceptual meta-books and elaborately illustrated works. One focus is on artists’ books from the GDR and the reunification period as well as references to the cultural history of Saxony-Anhalt and the art academies in Halle and Leipzig. The show opens up different perspectives: an introduction to the genre of the artist’s book, insights into thematic focuses and the principle of collecting as well as the “anatomy” of the book with its material and design characteristics. The focus is on the artists’ book collection of the Anhaltische Landesbücherei Dessau, which has been built up since 1992 and continues the great tradition of historical book art and has been expanded as a state collection since 1997. A program accompanying the exhibition with artist talks and vacation activities brings book art to life.
