Annegrete Frauenlob, Anne Deuter, Anna Helm, Rita Lass, and Friederike von Hellermann in the exhibition “Running into the Open—Perspectives on Contemporary Book Art”
“Contemporary Book Art: Moving Toward the Open” brings together recent works of book art by graduates of the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle and showcases the unique breadth of an art form that bridges literature, craftsmanship, and experimental design.
Last year, book and cover artist Mechthild Lobisch passed away. From 1995 to 2006, she served as a professor heading the Conceptual Book Art department at Burg Giebichenstein —a program unique in Germany in this form. During her tenure, she had a profound influence on the book arts program and trained an entire generation of book artists—some of whom are now internationally renowned—who are active today.
The exhibition features works by Annegret Frauenlob, Annette Friedrich, Anne Deuter, Anna Helm, Nancy Jahns, Magda Klemp, Ireen Kranz, Rita Lass, Jule Claudia Mahn, Sven Märkisch, Marianne Nagel, Susanne Nickel, Claudia Richter, Veronika Schäpers, Friederike von Hellermann and Judith Weißig and was curated by book artist Anna Helm.
