Picture weaving is one of the oldest forms of weaving and can be traced back to antiquity and probably to prehistoric times.
The kilim, as a form of picture weaving, goes back to centuries-old pre-Islamic traditions of nomads who produced tent hangings, carpets, wall hangings and blankets etc. on simple looms. The natural environment as well as emotions such as wishes and hopes were reflected as images in geometric patterns, ornaments or abstract motifs, which were handed down, developed and varied over generations.
In this technique, the warp is completely concealed and the weft thread forms the ornaments, motifs and patterns on both sides. As part of the course, various kilim techniques will be presented and learned using historical examples and specific techniques of picture weaving, and tested on a sample piece of your own. The setting up of the weaving frame is taught and enables independent work after the course.
