Picture weaving is one of the oldest forms of weaving and can be traced back to antiquity and probably to prehistoric times.
The kilim, as a form of picture weaving, goes back to centuries-old pre-Islamic traditions of nomads who produced tent hangings, carpets, wall hangings and blankets etc. on simple looms. The natural environment as well as emotions such as wishes and hopes were reflected as images in geometric patterns, ornaments or abstract motifs, which were handed down, developed and varied over generations.
In this technique, the warp is completely concealed, and the weft creates the ornaments, motifs, and patterns on both sides. As part of the course, participants will be introduced to various kilim techniques using historical examples, learn specific techniques for creating pictorial weaves, and practice them by creating their own sample piece. Participants will learn how to set up the loom, enabling them to work independently after the course.
