Leftist ART for the Future!
How do we counter a dystopian present—in the form of right-wing and authoritarian forces, a collapsing climate, isolation and fragmentation, and global militarization? Not only through leftist strategies, but also through leftist art!
Leftist poster art and political graphics have a long tradition, whether it’s Käthe Kollwitz’s striking leaflets, seemingly kitschy Chinese propaganda posters, or comic art and even memes. Building on these traditions, we are searching for the poster art of our time.
To that end, we’ll first look for alternatives to the status quo: How can we translate our utopias into the visual language of posters while connecting current events with new possibilities? At the same time, we cannot merely dream up a new future—we must make visible what already sustains and strengthens us today, what is worth defending. After all, poster art is always a collective practice, straddling the line between unifying prints and printed solidarity: which graphic elements, colors, and symbols bring us together?
We want to explore these themes through the exhibition accompanying the iL Conference and provide a platform for a selection of your creative works. Submissions will be exhibited during the iL Conference in Berlin from October 23–25, 2026. More information about the opening reception will follow.
