Background

The BBK Saxony-Anhalt has been operating the “Visual Arts Database Saxony-Anhalt” since 2017. It publishes catalogs of works and estates of visual artists with a connection to Saxony-Anhalt. The work database informs the public – including curators and researchers, for example – about the life’s work of individual artists and reflects the diversity of artistic positions in Saxony-Anhalt in the growing number of directories. At the same time, it is a simple and inexpensive tool for maintaining an overview of the artworks created over the course of an artist’s life and thus makes it easier for artists themselves and those working on their behalf to record their work. It also fulfills these tasks for heirs or estate administrators. The fee-based, three-part course “Werkdatenbank Bildende Kunst Sachsen-Anhalt” teaches participants how to use the database on the basis of the scientific and editorial standards of the BBK Sachsen-Anhalt. Under professional guidance, participants create a personal data record, maintain exhibition and literature lists, learn how to use links sensibly and create data records for each individual work of art. Questions about the structure and weighting of the oeuvre will also be discussed.

Registration deadline: March 15, 2025
