OBJECTIVE
The scholarship aims to facilitate an in-depth artistic exploration of the life and works of the sculptor Carlernst Kürten (1921–2000). Kürten was one of the leading figures in concrete and constructivist sculpture in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Carlernst Kürten Foundation operates an exhibition and development center in his former home and studio, which carries his artistic vision and the legacy of his work into the present.
Artist-in-residence programs offer important opportunities for professional development. They not only facilitate exchange across national borders and fields of work, but also foster the creation of new networks in an increasingly globalized world. Artist-in-residence programs provide the opportunity to engage in artistic practice outside one’s familiar cultural environment. They bring artists into contact with people in a new social and cultural context, thereby fostering an understanding of different ways of life, perspectives, and ways of thinking.
