As part of the “New Crafts Campus” construction project, the Halle Chamber of Crafts is building a new center for training and continuing education in the skilled trades in the region, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The future campus is located at Straße der Handwerker 2, 06132 Halle (Saale) in the Halle-Osendorf neighborhood. A “Art in Architecture” competition is now being announced for the future recreational areas in the outdoor spaces, particularly in front of the main entrance and in the inner courtyard.
Professional, freelance visualartists or groups of artists(from across the EU) are eligible to submit an expression of interest. Eligibility must apply to the lead member of the working group.
The open spaces on the new Crafts Campus serve as gathering, break, and relaxation areas for employees, apprentices, and boarding students. The goal of this competition is to develop an overarching artistic concept that enhances the quality of the space and makes a unique contribution to the identity and atmosphere of the complex. We are seeking a contemporary art-in-architecture project that combines the themes of ART – CRAFTS – TOOLS – MATERIALS – SPACE – ENCOUNTER into a self-contained, site-specific, and enduring work of art, allowing people to experience familiar things in a new way. Collaboration with qualified craft workshops, a combination of contemporary and traditional craft techniques, or the integration of different materials and technologies is particularly encouraged.
The proposed implementation budget is a maximum of 210,000 euros gross. Participants invited to the limited competition will receive a consulting fee of 2,500 euros gross, including statutory value-added tax.
First, a call for expressions of interest will be held. As a result of the selection process, up to tenartists or artist groupswill be invited to participate in the competition. The invitation-only competition will be conducted anonymously. The jury will select one design concept from among the entries in the invitation-only competition, which will be recommended to the organizing body for implementation.
