The City of Erfurt is issuing a call for proposals for the artistic design of approximately 140 running meters of storefront space on the ground floor of the “Am Hirschgarten” parking garage.
As Thuringia’s regional hub and a shopping destination, Erfurt has built a new parking garage for residents, commuters, and tourists in the southern part of the historic old town. The City Council has authorized the City of Erfurt to enter into an implementation agreement with the developer as part of the project-specific zoning plan required for this purpose; this agreement stipulates, among other things, that the storefront space on the ground floor be used to provide information on art and culture. Commercial or advertising use is explicitly prohibited.

Task definition
We are seeking an artistic design for approximately 140 running meters of storefront space on the ground floor of the “Am Hirschgarten” parking garage. We are seeking a permanent design (with a lifespan of at least 3 years, and ideally longer) that is resistant to the aforementioned climatic conditions, is based on the following criteria, and allows access to the storefront even in the event of an emergency (please refer to the attachments for this; if necessary, conduct an on-site inspection):
- Artistic design of the back wall using paint (graffiti)
- Artistic design of the back wall and, if applicable, the glass surface using adhesive decals
- Sculptural art for display on the floor (grids)
- Other forms of presentation adapted to climatic and structural conditions
For the reasons mentioned above and due to climatic conditions, it is not possible to display traditional, artistic “two-dimensional works”—such as paintings, prints, photographs, and the like—and therefore such works are not requested as part of this call for entries.
