The call is aimed at artists up to the age of 35. Artists are also eligible to apply if they graduated no more than 5 years ago.
The art scholarship is awarded every two years and offers young artists in the visual arts secure working conditions, monthly maintenance and the opportunity to hold an art exhibition in Soest for six months at the “Künstlerhaus im Paulipark” in Soest.
The “Wilhelm Morgner Scholarship” honors the Soest expressionist Wilhelm Morgner, who died in 1917 at the age of 26 and is considered an outstanding artist of the 20th century. With this scholarship, a group of initiators from Soest supports young artists in their individual artistic development, whose intensity and seriousness should be recognizable in their work to date. We hope that the artistic work can also be perceived by the Soest public during the period of the scholarship and that the results or developments are made known through an exhibition or another form of presentation not only in Soest. Every two years, the Kulturparlament Soest e. V., in cooperation with a group of Soest citizens, the city of Soest, the Ingrid Kipper Foundation, the Stadtwerke Soest, the Bürgerstiftung Hellweg-Region and the Volksbank Hellweg e.G., invites visual artists to a working residency.
For this purpose, the initiators provide a house with a studio and living area in the old town of Soest, where the artist can work and live free of charge for the duration of the scholarship. The scholarship holder undertakes to work in Soest, usually for six months. The scholarship holder receives a monthly maintenance allowance of € 1,200.00 for the working stay. Alternatively, a six-month stay is also made possible for artist couples who are artistically related to each other. The monthly support for artist couples is € 1,800.00 for both artists together.
