Sapporo, a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts, is announcing a competition for exhibition concepts to be presented during the Sapporo International Art Festival 2027 (SIAF2027). For the festival theme PLANET SNOW — upas mintar / upas nociw (conceiving of Sapporo as a “snow planet”), the organizers are seeking exhibition ideas for contemporary art that make use of and engage with the unique character of a glass display case several meters long (Glass Case Zone) located in the underground pedestrian tunnel. Two artists or collectives will be selected from all submissions and will exhibit in the glass display cases as official SIAF2027 participants from January 16 to March 24, 2027.
Individual artists and collectives are eligible to apply. Fee: ¥300,000 per group/participant ≈ €1,630; Production costs: ¥200,000 per party/participant ≈ €1,090; Travel/shipping allowance: Exhibitors based abroad: ¥250,000 per person ≈ €1,360
