“in circuit 2025” residency scholarships

This year, the Kunsthof Niederarnsdorf is awarding 4 residency scholarships to professional visual artists and artistic researchers with the support of the Kulturstiftung Thüringen.

The call for entries is aimed at work concepts and artistic methods that deal with the subject of sustainable processes and make them aesthetically sensible. The claim “sustainability” refers to social, cultural, ecological and economic sustainability.

The call for entries is aimed at professional visual artists residing in Thuringia or at work concepts that have a strong connection to the state of Thuringia or the Altenburger Land region. The Thuringian cultural landscape should be enhanced by the work created locally.

During one-month residencies, the artists convert their usual production and presentation methods to CO2-neutral processes or dedicate themselves to the investigation and initiation of sustainable transformation processes through artistic production. As part of the scholarship, an artistic research work is created that deals with the topic either through material or concept.

Concepts that enable the rural population to participate are particularly desirable.

The artistic practice includes textile art, graphics, sculpture, painting, media art, performance, art in architecture and art in public spaces.

We are looking for concepts that use participatory or research-based methods to seek active exchange or contact with the regional population, regional topics and materials and that depict this in a global context as a circular process.

The residence is in a special interrelationship with its environment and itself forms a structure of social, ecological, domestic and artistic structures.

The residencies explore how their own work under premises such as sustainability and climate neutrality has a transformative effect on and in art production as well as on the cultural sector and the coexistence of all.

The residency fellows operate in an artistic work and research community that is embedded in the rural structure, interacts with it or integrates it into the production of art.

An exhibition at the end of 2025 at the Kunsthof Niederarnsdorf will present the artists’ works created during their residency. The exhibition will also be shown at other venues, including those outside the region.
