Iris Band in Zeitz

Exhibition: Iris Band – Zeitz and Other Beautiful Places

From November 1, 2026, through March 7, 2027, the Museum Schloss Moritzburg Zeitz will present the special exhibition Iris Band – Zeitz and Other Beautiful Places. The exhibition features figurative and abstract works, as well as landscape and architectural views by the renowned Halle-based painter and graphic artist Iris Band. In her paintings, the artist succeeds in capturing the wonderful atmosphere of these places, whether they are local scenes or impressions from her travels abroad that inspire her.

Iris Band’s artistic practice reflects a respect for classical craftsmanship and follows in the intellectual tradition of Renaissance structural theory. Her paintings are based on plein air studies and sketches, which she collects primarily during her travels. In the studio, these observations coalesce into multilayered compositions. The canvases are divided into a grid of small, geometric fields that refract the light and lend the paintings an almost tactile, sensual depth.

Her family environment in Meissen, where her parents worked at the porcelain manufactory, had a formative influence on this development. After participating in a drawing circle at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, she went on to study at the Halle University of Industrial Design, Burg Giebichenstein. Her training there in the fields of metalwork, enamel, and painting continues to resonate in her work to this day.

A special highlight of the exhibition is dedicated to the city of Zeitz. Iris Band created three new paintings featuring views of Zeitz specifically for the exhibition space at Moritzburg Castle; these works capture the city’s architecture in Iris Band’s characteristic, upbeat visual style.

Note for art lovers: The specially commissioned views of Zeitz, as well as other selected works, will be available for purchase through the museum after the exhibition.
