KaB: Pirmasens | Turnstraße sports hall

Restricted competition with prior open application procedure

The city of Pirmasens is holding an art in architecture competition as part of the project to build a new municipal sports hall on Turnstraße. The new sports hall, located in the city center, is used for club and popular sports, as well as for school sports in the surrounding schools. For its use, emphasis was placed on ensuring that a wide range of sporting activities are possible. The sports hall is seen as a space for movement with the power to connect, enabling sporting use as well as communication and social interaction. The target groups and users themselves are as diverse as the sports opportunities. The hall is also designed to host individual events.
The placement of the art in the building is planned on a designated construction site in the outdoor area on the forecourt of the sports hall. The construction site is located in the transition from the public street space to the entrance/foyer and can therefore be experienced in a variety of ways. The awarding authority wants a work of art that appeals to the diversity of users and also takes into account the architectural attitude of the building.
