Shibori and indigo dyeing
Individual appointments for groups of 5 or more possible
Shibori is a highly developed traditional dyeing and reserve technique from Japan. The term shibori is derived from the Japanese verb shiboru and means to wring, press, squeeze and refers to a specific treatment of fabrics before dyeing, in which specific areas are reserved by tying, folding, pressing, binding, pinching, wrapping or setting seams. The specific spatial compression leaves its mark on the fabric during the dyeing process in the form of complex patterns and structures.
Where the fabric is bound, pinched, stitched or pressed together in folds, it cannot absorb any dye – the characteristic soft edges are created at the edges and the flow marks of the indigo pulp are deposited.
By combining different shibori techniques and multiple dyeing of the fabrics, an increase in the spatial effect and a differentiated range of color nuances can be achieved. Dyeing is done with natural indigo and, depending on requirements, in vats of varying concentrations.
The course aims to teach and learn various methods of binding, sewing and press reservation with the aim of creating your own collection of samplers.
